September Newsletter
We have had a wonderful first full week of school! I am having a great time getting to know your child. I hope he/she has been coming home with lots to say about all the new things in our class!
In this newsletter I am trying to include answers to some of the questions you may have. I hope they will help. If you have any additional concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to send a note into school with your child. I will write back, e-mail, or call home promptly. Please don’t forget to send back all school forms as quickly as possible (preferably in the homework folder that I will use daily to send items home). I look forward to meeting all of you at our open house night September 12th!
Have a great weekend!
Specialist Schedule
Please be aware that we are now using a DAY A-D schedule this year instead of Mon. – Fri. You may need to help your child remember which “Day” it is by looking at the calendar that I sent home earlier.
Day A- Music
Day B- Phys. Ed. (make sure to wear sneakers and comfy clothes)
Day C- Library
Day D- Art (remember to wear something that you don’t mind getting messy)
Lunch/Snack
First Grade is Striving to be Peanut-Free.
-Please send a small, healthy snack (no candy, chips or cookies, please) and a small drink for our daily snack around 10:00 each day. An extra small drink box is fine during that time, but please do not send big bottles and big cans since we do not want to waste any drink not finished during that short amount of time. I do have a water fountain in the room and the children can get a cup of water to go with their snack.
-If your child is purchasing lunch, please use the calendar menu to help your child decide what they would like for lunch. They will be making their lunch choice when they get to the cafeteria.
-If you are purchasing multiple lunches for your child with cash, please place money in an envelope or baggy with your child’s name, labeling it “lunch” so we know what the money is for. Many times the children do not know why they have money.
-Lunch will be at 11:55 this year ($2.25 for full lunch, $.65 for milk).
Volunteers:
I will have a sign-up sheet for parent volunteers at the RMS open house. I can utilize 1-2 parents a day to help students in centers or guide them through some computer software. Center time will probably be from 9:00-10:45
Monthly Newsletters
I am planning on using the computer to help reduce the amount of paper being copied. Instead of sending home a hard copy like this every month, I was hoping to send it via e-mail and/or through my website:
http://rmsgrade1lenahan.weebly.com/
Please make sure to give me any e-mail addresses that you would like me to use to send you the newsletter (you can have multiple addresses - work/home, mom/dad). Around the first of the month I will send an attachment of the newsletter- so keep an eye out for those newsletters. If you prefer to just get the hard copy, let me know and I will make sure it gets home to you.
Scholastic Book Club Orders
These past few years I have been trying to use the on-line service that is offered with ordering books from Scholastic Book Clubs. I plan to continue using this service and routinely set up the month’s order due date to be the 15th of the month. Even if you do not get the hard copy order form (since sometimes I do not get the order forms until after I have already sent the newsletter out) you can always check out the site at:
www.scholastic.com/bookclubs
Class Activation Code: GQF64
If you visit my website, there is a link for you at the bottom on my home page also.
Open House/Prof. Half Day
-Open house for grades K-3 this year will be September 12th, 2011 from 6:30-7:30. I look forward to meeting all of you on that day.
-We will also be having a half a day on Sept. 26th. Please make sure that your child brings in a “lunch” snack on that day.
Johnny Appleseed
Johnny Appleseed’s birthday lands on our half-day this year. Therefore will be “celebrating” his birthday on that day. Please have your child bring in an apple that we will use for some activities on that day.
